Конкурс The Climate CoLab

The Climate CoLab contest is inviting applicants to submit proposals on Exploring Synergistic Solutions for Sustainable Development.

Key Issues

        As decision-makers are deciding and implementing strategies to pursue the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), they are running into trade-offs between achieving the targets. For example, studies have shown that, while protecting the world’s forests can keep carbon out of the atmosphere (contributing to the goal on climate action, SDG 13), it may also reduce land availability for food (hampering the goal on eliminating hunger, SDG 2).

        Producing enough food to achieve zero hunger (SDG 2) could come at the cost of clean water and sanitation (SDG 6) due to increase in the use of irrigation and fertilizer. SDG 9 on building resilient infrastructure could be at the expense of protecting terrestrial ecosystems like forests (SDG 15).

Judges’ Choice and Popular Choice Winner(s) will:

        be invited to attend the official launch event for GEO-6 during the Fourth UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-4) in March 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya

        showcase their proposals to policy-makers, business leaders, Intergovernmental Organizations and other influential stakeholders at UNEA

        be recognized by the UN Environment’s Office of the Chief Scientist

        be given the unique opportunity to meet with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Environment

        be awarded one economy-class roundtrip airfare ticket, and a daily subsistence allowance to support their travel to Nairobi.

        receive wide recognition and visibility by MIT Climate CoLab.

Eligibility Criteria

        Climate CoLab is open to anyone in the world, regardless of age*, nationality, gender identity, cultural identity, or political viewpoint.

        Contests, however, are void where prohibited by law. Climate CoLab users bear the responsibility of checking with local laws and regulations, to ensure their participation does not violate any applicable law or ordinance, and to ensure they are eligible to participate.

        If Applicants are under 18 years old, Applicants will need their parent or legal guardian to register on the Climate CoLab website and submit their proposal or their vote for applicants.

        Applicants may submit projects that have previously published or exhibited elsewhere so long as they conform to the Climate CoLab’s Terms of Use and the rules of the contest.
